What we keep, who else handles it, and what you can do about it. Most of this is fixed, so it is a description, not a menu.

What we keep

Last updated October 2026.

  • Your email address, used to sign in, to verify your account and for any notification emails you turn on. It is never shown to other members.
  • Your votes, takes, replies, ratings and notes, with the edit history of your takes, replies and openings.
  • The IP address you last signed in from, and the ordinary request logs our web host keeps. We use these to deal with abuse.
  • Your profile photo if you add one, resized, with its metadata removed. The original is discarded.
  • Your profile details if you choose to add them: name, bio and location.

What is public

  • Takes, replies and notes, attributed to your username, with their full history.
  • Your standing level, such as Member or Trusted.
  • Boards you opened, and your profile details if you filled them in.
Votes without a take are private. A vote is only visible when you attach a take to it, because the take shows the vote. There is no setting to make votes public.

Bots and new accounts

Sign-up needs a verified email and passes a bot check, and new accounts are limited in how much they can post. We also check accounts automatically for patterns that look like bots. An account that crosses the line is marked Suspected bot: its takes collapse by default and its votes drop out of both results until an admin clears it or the member passes re-verification from their profile.

Every take from an account under three days old carries a New account mark so you know who you are reading. It drops off on its own.

Automated checks

Checks run on our own servers and no text is sent to an AI model. New boards are compared with existing ones for near-duplicates and checked against a short set of rules. Links are checked against a blocklist, and we may also check them with Google Safe Browsing, which receives the link and nothing else.

These checks can hold a board, hide a flagged item or mark an account as a suspected bot. An admin reviews the result, and you can appeal a held or removed board and a bot mark.

Who else handles your data

  • Mailgun delivers our email.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile runs the bot challenge at sign-up and when you write your first take.
  • Our web host stores the site and its database.
  • Google Analytics may be switched on for aggregate page counts, with IP addresses anonymised. We do not use it for advertising.

We do not sell your data and we run no advertising trackers.

Cookies

A session cookie keeps you signed in and a security cookie protects forms from forgery. Turnstile may set its own cookies to tell people from bots. There are no advertising cookies.

Your data

Download everything you have made from account settings. Deleting your account removes your username and profile details. Your takes stay on their boards, attributed to a deleted member, because boards are permanent records and removing takes would change votes that already counted.

For anything else, such as a correction or a request we cannot do from settings, use the contact page.
